Wilfred was born on November 1st, 1912 in Royton.1  Wilfred's father was Albert Buckley and his mother was Emily Shaw.  His paternal grandparents were George Buckley and Eliza Hampson. He had two brothers and a sister, named Fred, Albert and Edith.  He was the second youngest of the four children.
