Edith was born in 1914 in Royton.1  Edith's father was Albert Buckley and her mother was Emily Shaw.  Her paternal grandparents were George Buckley and Eliza Hampson. She had three brothers named Fred, Albert and Wilfred.  She was the youngest of the four children.
