Abner was born in June 1859 in Oldham.1  Abner's father was John Buckley and his mother was Jane Field or Peel.  His paternal grandparents were Abner Buckley and Sarah Needham. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Isaac, Emma and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
