James was born on June 6th, 1780 in Harwood and his baptism took place on June 11th, 1780 in Manchester.1  James' father was Arthur Bromiley and his mother was Mary Croshaw. He had seven brothers and a sister, named Arthur, Robert, Thomas, Samuel, John, Roger, Daniel and Ruth.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
