Mary was born in 1763 in Wybunbury and her baptism took place there on February 2nd, 1763.1  Mary's father was Hugh Brereton Jnr and her mother was Mary Criton.  Her paternal grandparents were Hugh Brereton and Mary Withers. She had two brothers and two sisters, named James, George, Hannah and Ann.  She was the second youngest of the five children.
