Hugh was born in 1798 in Wybunbury.1  Hugh's father was George Brereton and his mother was Margaret Taylor.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Brereton and Frances Stokes. He had a brother and a sister, named Thomas and Fanny.  He was the oldest of the three known children.  He died at the age of 70 in March 1868 in Congleton.  He was buried on March 14th, 1868 in Astbury.2 3

‌Hugh and Mary were married in a religious ceremony on October 15th, 1826 in Astbury.5   They had a biological son named Enoch.  They also had an adopted son named John.  There are no more children.
