Ann was born in December 1872 in Congleton.1  Ann's father was Edwin Brereton and her mother was Mary Ann Tobin. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Ernest, James, George, Thomas, Alfred, John, Mary, Emma and Bertha.  Ann and Alfred were twins.
