Sarah was born in September 1840 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on November 1st, 1840 at St. Peter's (Bolton) conducted by Curate P R Robin.1 2  Sarah's father was Luke Booth and her mother was Mary Clifford. She had six brothers and a sister, named James, John, Joseph, Thomas, Richard, Richard and Elizabeth.  She was the seventh oldest of the eight children.
