Ann's father was Richard Bolton and her mother was Maria Aspinall. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Bolton and Mary Whitaker. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, Richard, Abraham, Mary and Emly. She was the oldest of the seven children.
