Ann was born in 1836 in Bolton and her baptism took place there on September 18th, 1836.1 2  Ann's father was Richard Bolton and her mother was Maria Aspinall.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Bolton and Mary Whitaker. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, Richard, Abraham, Mary and Emly.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
