Mary's father was Richard Bolton and her mother was Maria Aspinall.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Bolton and Mary Whitaker. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, Richard, Abraham, Ann and Emly.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 49 in 1893 in Failsworth.¹
