Thomas was born in 1823 in Radcliffe.1  Thomas' father was Thomas Bowden and his mother was Elizabeth (Betsy) Lord (Pendlebury). He had two brothers named Charles and Luke.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named James and Mary.
