John's father was Edward Bennett and his mother was Elizabeth Piercy. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Edward, Benjamin, Jonathan, John, Nathaniel, Mary, Ann and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 16 in September 1777 in Wepre.  He was buried on September 24th, 1777 in Northop.¹
