Frederick, known as Fred, was born on January 21st, 1878 in Marylebone, Middlesex.  Fred's father was Charles Walter Bedding and his mother was Jane Sarah Rosser.  His paternal grandparents were Mathew Edward Bedding and Dinah Malverne or Melvin; his maternal grandparents were William Rosser and Mary. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Walter, Charles, Arthur, Albert, Percy, Gertrude, Florence and Ethel.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
