Martha's father was George Batho and her mother was Elizabeth Kirkham.  Her paternal grandparents were George Batho and Martha Cartwright. She had a brother and two sisters, named George, Mary and Lizzie.  She was the second oldest of the four children.  She died at the age of 24 in June 1874 in Stourbridge.²
