Amos' father was Robert Atkinson and his mother was Agnes Storey.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Atkinson and Agnes; his maternal grandparents were Robert Storey and Isabel Mitchell. He had three brothers and three sisters, named David, Samuel, Emmanuel, Agnes, Hannah and Rachel.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Joseph and Margaret.
