Betsy's father was James Ashcroft and her mother was Mary Mather. Her maternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Edge. She had four brothers and a sister, named John, Thomas, Abel, Robert and Betsy. She was the fifth oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 1 in January 1842 in Little Bolton. Her burial was on January 2nd, 1842 in Bolton.²¹
