Betsy was born in September 1838 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on July 21st, 1839 at Bolton Emmanuel.1 2  Betsy's father was James Ashcroft and her mother was Mary Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Edge. She had four brothers and a sister, named John, Thomas, Abel, Robert and Betsy.  She was the third youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 1 in October 1839 in Little Bolton.  She was buried on October 20th, 1839 in Bolton.1
