Sarah was born in February 1900 in Wigan.1  Sarah's father was William  Ainsworth and her mother was Mary Orrell.  Her maternal grandparents were Richard Orrell and Sarah Gorse. She had four brothers named Jonathan, Peter, George and John.  She was the second oldest of the five known children.
