Jean was born in 1660 in Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré, Montmorency, Qc, Canada.  Jean's father was René II DeLavoye and his mother was Anne Gaudin.  His paternal grandparents were René I DeLavoye and Isabeau Bellenger; his maternal grandparents were Élie Gaudin and Esther Ramage. He had four brothers and a sister, named René III, Pierre, Jacques, Joseph and Anne.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 63 in 1723 in Rivière-Ouelle, Qc, Canada.
