Ronald was born on April 22nd, 1887.  Ronald's father was Andrew Hewat and his mother was Elizabeth Usher.  His maternal grandfather was George Usher and his maternal grandmother is Caroline Gaisford. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Andrew, Lionel, Gwendoline, William, Amy, Jesse , Evelyn, Blanche and Gladys.  He was the seventh oldest of the eleven children.
