Amy was born on September 18th, 1874.  Amy's father was Andrew Hewat and her mother was Elizabeth Usher.  Her maternal grandfather was George Usher and her maternal grandmother is Caroline Gaisford. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Andrew, Ronald, Lionel, Gwendoline, William, Jesse , Evelyn, Blanche and Gladys.  She was the oldest of the eleven children.
