Melvin was born on May 4th, 1925.  Melvin's father was Hollie (Bud) B. Price and his mother was Prudence Gertrude "Gertie" Dye.  His paternal grandparents were William Preston Price and Mary "Louise" Sims; his maternal grandparents were George Alexander Dye and Margaret Louise Wyatt. He had three brothers and a sister, named William, Lester, Robert and Lelia.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 80 in 2005.

‌Melvin and Virginia were married.  They had two sons named Richard and Robert.
