Elizabeth was born on September 4th, 1855 in Jefferson, Ashtabula County, Ohio.1 Elizabeth's father was Joseph Addison Giddings and her mother was Mary A. Curtiss. Her paternal grandparents were Joshua Reed Giddings and Laura Waters. She had a brother and two sisters, named Albert, Kate and Clara. She was the second oldest of the four children.-
