Jean, known as Joannes, was born on September 10th, 1769 in Lummen and his baptism took place there on September 10th, 1769.1 2   His godfather was Joannes Gaethofs and his godmother was Maria Postelmans.  Joannes' father was Joannes Michael Gaethofs and his mother was Anna Catharina Put.  His paternal grandparents were Joannes Gaethofs and Maria Claes; his maternal grandparents were Henri Put and Margarita Rutten. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Joannes Matthias, Hendrik Frans Remi, Joannes Antonius, Petrus Franciscus, Marie Catharina and Anne Marie.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 67 on August 4th, 1837 in Paal.2

‌Joannes and Catherina were married in a religious ceremony on July 31st, 1796 in Paal.  They had six sons and three daughters, named Petrus Henricus (Hendrik), Gaspard, Joseph, Jean Michel, Bernard, Casimire, Anne Marie, Joanna and Anna Coletta.
