Minnie was born in 1886.  Minnie's father was William Washington Van Winkle and her mother was Louetta Azbill.  Her maternal grandparents were James Azbill and Mahala Jane Bicknell.  She was the eighth of nine children.  She had four brothers and four sisters, named Albert, James A., Joseph Lewis, Roy, Arilza, Wilma, Mahala and Ann.
