Ann was born in 1885.  Ann's father was William Washington Van Winkle and her mother was Louetta Azbill.  Her maternal grandparents were James Azbill and Mahala Jane Bicknell.  She was the seventh of nine children.  She had four brothers and four sisters, named Albert, James A., Joseph Lewis, Roy, Arilza, Wilma, Mahala and Minnie.
