Egbert, known as Ep, was born on March 16th, 1891 in Wapse.1  Ep's father was Harm Veenstra and his mother was Albertje Monsuur.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Harms Veenstra and Grietje Bartelds Oost; his maternal grandparents were Jan Jans Monsuur and Albertje Alberts Nijenhuis. He had five brothers and a sister, named Jan, Jan, Barteld, Albert, Geert and Aaltje.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
