Jan was born on May 1st, 1816 in Hengelo.1  Jan's father was Jan Bosman and his mother was Hendrica (Hendrika) de Gier.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Bosman and Vrouw / Moeder; his maternal grandparents were Garrit de Gier and Berentjen Antink. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Jan, Gerrit, Bernardus Hendrikus, Berentjen, Hendrina and Willemken.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 85 on December 10th, 1901 in Hengelo.2
