Catharina was born on December 31st, 1909 in Bekveld.1  Catharina's father was Arend Mulderij (dagloner) and her mother was Catharina Boesveld.  Her paternal grandparents were Berend Mulderij (dagloner) and Hendrika Lankwerden; her maternal grandparents were Gart Jan Boesveld (dienstknecht) and Berendina Engbers. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Gart Jan, Berend, Arend, Derk Jan, Hendrika, Berendina and Arendina.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
