Gerrit was born on November 24th, 1771.  Gerrit's father was Jan Preusterink and his mother was Derkske  Fredriks.  His paternal grandparents were Hendrik Preusterink and Hendrikka Heitink. He had a brother and two sisters, named Hendrik, Hendrika and Berentjen.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
