Berentjen was born on April 17th, 1775.  Berentjen's father was Jan Preusterink and her mother was Derkske  Fredriks.  Her paternal grandparents were Hendrik Preusterink and Hendrikka Heitink. She had two brothers and a sister, named Gerrit, Hendrik and Hendrika.  She was the youngest of the four children.
