Grada was born on October 15th, 1825 in Wisch.1  Grada's father was Hendrik Jansen and her mother was Dersken (Derse) Bussink.  Her paternal grandparents were Hendrik Jan Jansen and Enneken Jolink; her maternal grandparents were Lammert Bussink and Garritijen Heusinkveld. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Lammert, Gerrit, Derk Willem, Jan, Everdina, Hendrika, Aleida and Dora.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
