Derk Willem was born on October 26th, 1827 in Wisch.1  Derk Willem's father was Hendrik Jansen and his mother was Dersken (Derse) Bussink.  His paternal grandparents were Hendrik Jan Jansen and Enneken Jolink; his maternal grandparents were Lammert Bussink and Garritijen Heusinkveld. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Lammert, Gerrit, Jan, Everdina, Grada, Hendrika, Aleida and Dora.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 70 on January 2nd, 1898 in Aalten.1
