Jan was born on September 3rd, 1769 in Zelhem.1  Jan's father was Derk Abbink and his mother was Jenneken Hallerdijk.  His paternal grandparents were Henrick Abbink and Jantje; his maternal grandparents were Jan Halderdijk and Hendersken Oldenhave (Oudenhave?). He had two brothers and two sisters, named Hendrik, Marten, Teuntjen and Hendrika.  He was the second oldest of the five children. He had two half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Harmanus, Garrit Hendrik, Jenneken / Jenneke, Gradeken, Maria, Jantjen, Janna and Grada.  He died at the age of 74 on January 1st, 1844 in Halle (Bronckhorst).2
