Janna was born on August 27th, 1840.  Janna's father was Hermannus van der Sel and her mother was Gerridina Stil.  Her paternal grandparents were Karel van der Sel and Elisabeth van Oorschot. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Carel, Hermannus, Lambert, Elisabeth and Carolina Gerridina.  She was the second oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 32 on May 21st, 1873.
