Neeltje was born about 1809 in Nieuwe Niedorp.  Neeltje's father was Teunis Groot (de) and her mother was Trijntje Pijper.  Her paternal grandparents were Pieter Groot and Jantje Teunis Laan; her maternal grandparents were Jan Klaasz Pijper and Maartje Jans de Vries. She had two brothers and seven sisters, named Jan, Pieter, Jantje, Maartje, Kniertje, Pietertje, Geertje, Crelisje and Cornelia.  She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.  She died on April 26th, 1858 in Twisk.
