Sijmon was born on November 21st, 1717.  Sijmon's father was Jacob Jacobszn Groot and his mother was Geertje Jans.  His paternal grandfather was Jacob Groot. He had two half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Pieter, Jan, Diewertje, Diewertje , Neeltje , Maartje and Lijsbet .
