Margaret was born on June 5th, 1826 in Torryburn, Fifeshire, Scotland and her christening took place there on June 6th, 1826.1   Margaret's father was Thomas VIPOND and her mother was Jean BORLAND. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Archibald, John, Robert, George, Janet, Elizabeth, Jean and Ann.  She was the third youngest of the ten children.
