William James Denathorne MATTHEWS

William was born on March 29th, 1894 in Queenstown, SA.¹   William's father was George MATTHEWS and his mother was Eliza WATSON.  His paternal grandparents were George MATTHEWS and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Joseph WATSON and Miriam COTTON. He had two brothers and five sisters, named George, Charles, Eliza, Florence, Margaret, Emmie and Fanny.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
