Patrick was born in 1804 in Madoc, Ontario, Canada.  Patrick's father was Robert Carman and his mother was Alice O'Brien/Carman.  His paternal grandparents were John Carman and Mary Crowfoot/Carman.  He had a sister named Mary Ann.  He was the older of the two children.  He had five half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John, Robert, William, James, Christopher, Ruth, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 115 in 1919.
