Mary Ann Woolner

Mary Ann was born on January 24th, 1872 in Cawdor, Camden, Nsw, Australia. Mary Ann's father was James Woolner and her mother was Elizabeth White. Her paternal grandparents were Henry Woolner and Sarah Gale; her maternal grandparents were Rufus White and Caroline Allen. She had eight brothers and five sisters, named Woolner, George, John, William, James, David, James Henry, Peter, Lavinia, Lavinia, Sarah Ann, Louisa and Mary Elizabeth. She was the seventh oldest of the fourteen children. She had nine half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Woolner, George, John, William, James, David, James Henry, Albert Edward, Peter, Mary Ann, Sarah Ann, Louisa and Mary Elizabeth. She died at the age of 70 on July 29th, 1942 in South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She was buried in 1942 in Fawkner Memorial Park, Victoria, Australia.

- Mary Ann WOOLNER was the sixth child of Elizabeth and James WOOLNER andshe was born on 24 January 1872 at Cawdor, New South Wales, Australia.Little is known of her life until she married George BEACH on 20 November1889 at the house of Mrs SHOEMAKE/SHOEMARK, Olive Street, Albury, NewSouth Wales, Australia according to the rights of the Wesleyan Church.Mary and George had five children over a four year span, with Ivy BEACH,born in 1891 as the only surviving child of this union. There doesn't seem appear to have been any official divorce but Mary'ssecond "husband" was Thomas Hart PIERCE. They lived in the Corowa NSWarea. Their children were Edith born in 1903, Mary born in 1906 andPercival (known as Thomas) born in 1908. Family lore suggests thatThomas was an alcoholic and his failure to support his family led to themeach being sent out to work on large properties as children. Mary Ann went to live with her daughter Edith PIERCE after her firstmarriage in 1927 to Thomas GILCHRIST with Mary Ann by this time wassuffering from a form of dementia. Edith cared for her invalid motherfor the next 15 years until her tragic death in July 1942. Edith lefther mother sitting near a small fire in the front room of their home inSouth Melbourne, Victoria, Australia for half an hour while she did someshopping. When she returned home she found her mother still sitting bythe fire but with her clothes burnt from her. Mary Ann was severelyburnt about the body and died in hospital that same day. She was buriedat the Fawkner Memorial Park, Victoria. It is not known whether Mary Ann had any contact with her family aftershe left their care - her life seems to have been a rather sad and tragicone.
