Robert was born in 1762 in Ilton, Somerset, England.  Robert's father was Edward Pester and his mother was Rachel Derman. He had two brothers and five sisters, named John, James, Mary, Mary, Ann, Rachel and Betty.  He was the oldest of the eight children.
