Betty was born in 1783 in Ilton, Somerset, England.  Betty's father was Edward Pester and her mother was Rachel Derman. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Robert, John, James, Mary, Mary, Ann and Rachel.  She was the youngest of the eight children.
