Margaret was born on May 1st, 1860 in Ayton, Berwickshire, Scotland. Margaret's father was William Greig and her mother was Ann Delgaty. Her paternal grandparents were Alexander Greig and Margaret Symington; her maternal grandparents were Alexander Delgaty and Janet Mary Sligh. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Alexander, William, James, Thomas, Charles, Mary, Agnes, Sarah and Annie. She was the oldest of the ten children.-
