Mary J was born in 1875 in Southwick.  Mary J's father was George Eggleston Blackett and her mother was Sarah Unknown.  Her paternal grandparents were George Blackett and Ann Robinson. She had six brothers and two sisters, named John George, Francis I (S), William B, Ernest A, Charles, Frederick, Sarah Ann and Margaret E.  She was the fourth youngest of the nine children.
