John George was born in 1866 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England. John George's father was George Eggleston Blackett and his mother was Sarah Unknown. His paternal grandparents were George Blackett and Ann Robinson. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Francis I (S), William B, Ernest A, Charles, Frederick, Sarah Ann, Margaret E and Mary J. He was the third oldest of the nine children.-
