Russell was born on April 9th, 1888 in Hammondville, Bullskin township, Fayette County,  Pennsylvania, USA.1  Russell's father was Charles Sumner Hebenthal and his mother was Margaret Hart (Hebenthal).  His paternal grandparents were Henry Hebenthal and Elizabeth B Slonecker (Hebenthal); his maternal grandparents were Henry D Hart and Nancy Calhoun (Hart). He had five brothers and four sisters, named Harry, Edward, George, Elmer, Charles, Evalyn, Lillian, Hazel and Ethel.  He was the oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 20 on March 26th, 1909 in Hammondville, Bullskin township, Fayette County,  Pennsylvania, USA.  He was buried at the Fairview Community Church Cemetery, Bullskin Twp., Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA.2 1

Russell and Margaret were married in a religious & civil ceremony on September 16th, 1907 in Cumberland,  Maryland, USA.  They had a son named Lester.
