Matthew Raine

Matthew was born in 1858 in Middleton, Teesdale, Co Durham.¹   Matthew's father was Thomas Raine and his mother was Hannah Tunstall.  His paternal grandparents were John Raine and Mary Bainbridge. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James, William, Thomas, Joseph, Agnes, Margaret and Ellen.  He was the oldest of the eight children. He had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named John, Thomas, Charles, Philip and Mary.
