Ellen Gale 
Ellen was born in 1858 in Leeds, Yorkshire.1 Ellen's father was William Gale and her mother was Elizabeth Jordan. Her paternal grandparents were William Gale and Elizabeth Stead; her maternal grandparents were Dennis Jordan and Harriet Oxley. She had a brother and three sisters, named Thomas, Sarah, Elizabeth and Hannah. She was the second youngest of the five children.-
