Vera was born in October 1935.  Vera's father was Joseph (The Ace) William Castoral and her mother was Vera Beyer (Castoral).  Her paternal grandparents were William Castoral and Mary (Castoral); her maternal grandparents were  Orville  Beyer and  Helen Spoonauer (Beyer).  She is the oldest of fourteen children.  She had seven brothers and six sisters, named Sonny, Frank, Bobby, Jerry, Walter, Smokey, Kenny, Joan, Peggy, Carole, Helen, Kathy and Denise.

Jerry and Vera were divorced. They had three sons named Richie, Kevin and Mark.
